Primeira Emissão / First Definitives

A primeira emissão de selos postais das Ilhas Faroe, ocorreu a 30.01.1975 e tratou-se de uma emissão base.

Os selos tinham os seguintes valores:

5, 10, 50, 60, 70, 80, 90, 120, 200, 250, 300, 350, 450 e 500 oyru.

Da primeira emissão, também foram emitidas carteiras, contendo três pares de selos da taxa de 10 oyru e dois pares de selos da taxa de 70 oyru.

The first issue of postage stamps of the Faroe Islands, was on 30.01.1975 and it was a Definitives

The stamps had follow values:

5, 10, 50, 60, 70, 80, 90, 120, 200, 250, 300, 350, 450 and 500 oyru.

The first issue, were also issued booklets containing 3 pairs of 10 oyru stamps and two pairs of 70 oyru stamps.

Føroyar, Faroe Islands ou Ilhas Faroe...

As Ilhas Faroe (Føroyar na língua local) são um grupo de 18 ilhas do Norte da Europa, situadas entre o Mar da Noruega e o Atlântico Norte; entre a Escócia, a Islândia e a Dinamarca.

O seu povoamento, foi feito por monges irlandeses (ordem de St. Brendan) por volta do ano 825 e por Vikings por volta do ano 900.

As Ilhas Faroe, em 1814, tornaram-se politicamente independentes da Noruega e desde 1948 são uma região autónoma do Reino da Dinamarca.

A capital do arquipélago é a cidade de Thorshavn, cujo nome deriva do Deus Nórdico Thor.

O serviço postal das Ilhas Faroe (Postverk Føroya) foi criado em 1 de Abril de 1976 e tornou-se uma empresa semi-pública em 16 de Dezembro de 2005.

Actualmente, existem 34 postos de correio, distribuídos pelas ilhas do arquipélago, servindo os seus cerca de 48000 habitantes.

A fascinante história postal das Ilhas Faroe, de uma forma muito breve, pode-se dividir em seis períodos:

- Selos postais da Dinamarca, com marca Faroe (1870 – 1919)

- Selos postais da Dinamarca, com marca Faroe (1919 – 1940)
- Selos postais da Dinamarca, com marca Faroe (1941 – 1962)
- Selos postais da Dinamarca, com marca Faroe (1962 – 1975)

- Selos postais das Ilhas Faroe (1975 – até ao presente)

- Use of Danish stamps with Faroe markings (1870 – 1919)

The Faroe Islands (Føroyar in the local language) meaning “Sheep Islands” are a group of eighteen islands in Northen Europe, between the Norwegian Sea and the North Atlantic Ocean.
They have been an autonomous province of the Kingdom of Denmark since 1948.

They were settled by Irish Monks (St. Brendan) around the year 825 and by the Vikings around the year 900, the capital is Thorshavn, named after the Norse God Thor.

The Faroe Islands postal service (Postverk Føroya ) was founded on the 1st of April 1976 and becomes a public stock join company with the name P/F Postverk Føroya.

At the present time they are 34 the post offices supporting the about 48000 inhabitants.

The fascinating postal history of the Faroe Islands could be easily divided in six periods:

- Prephilatelic Mail

- Use of Danish stamps with Faroe markings (1870 – 1919)
- Use of Danish stamps with Faroe markings (1919 – 1940)
- Use of Danish stamps with Faroe markings (1941 – 1962)
- Use of Danish stamps with Faroe markings (1962 – 1975)

- Contemporary stamps of the Faroe Islands (1975 – Present)
